Keep your cakes fresh and moist for days with my 3 simple tips!
If you’re a baker and love baking as much I do but struggle with keeping your cakes moist and fresh then I’ve got some tips for you. I bake a lot and keeping my cakes moist and fresh for days is paramount. Over the years I’ve come up with simple tips and tricks to that helps keep my cakes moist and fresh for days.
Before I list down a few tips for you all, the most important thing that you should keep in mind is that you should always wait for the cake to cool down once its out of the oven. Wait till it reaches room temperature and then refrigerate it.
TIP#1 : simple syrup
In baking especially, sugar plays a lot of roles other than just being a sweetener. Sugar being hygroscopic in nature has the ability to attract water and hold it which lets your cake stay moist and soft for days. So it’s always a good idea to soak your cake with a simple mixture of sugar and water to keep them moist and fresh until the last bite. All you have to do is just brush or dab the syrup into the layers of the sponge.
TIP #2:Bread pieces to lock in the freshness
Breads contain moisture and have the ability to hold moisture which prevents your cake from drying out. But how can you use bread to keep your cakes moist? All you have to do it just place some bread pieces on the exposed ends of the cake before you refrigerate it. This will help the bread to transfer the moisture thus keeping your ends and your cake moist.
TIP #3: Over-sized bowl as a cake dome
The one is my favourite tip!
A frosted or unfrosted cake can be easily kept fresh if its covered. You can use a cake dome to do that but if you don’t have a cake dome you can just invert an over sized bowl over your cake to cover it completely. Make sure the bowl is big enough to cover the cake without sticking to it. This trick will not only help you to to keep your cakes fresh but also save it from dust, unwanted particles and bad refrigerator odour.
